Jonathan Bernier will start in net for the Toronto Maple Leafs against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday after goaltender James Reimer experienced “tightness” following Tuesday’s game, according to a tweet from the team’s official Twitter account.
The Leafs also recalled Marlies goaltender Antoine Bibeau on an emergency basis for Wednesday’s game in Pittsburgh.
Reimer was originally scheduled to make his first start since Dec. 3 on Wednesday, following two separate stints on the injured reserve due to a lingering groin issue.
Bernier allowed six goals on 15 shots in Tuesday’s 6-3 loss to the New York Islanders. He was replaced by Reimer to start the third period. Reimer stopped all six shots he faced in the final frame.
More to come.
