Gas leak forces evacuation of downtown Regina

A gas leak in downtown Regina has led to at least one building being evacuated Tuesday morning.

According to police, there is a natural gas pipe break in the alley at the 1800 block of Hamilton Street Alley. Police believe the cause of the leak was a vehicle striking a gas line.

The Conexus building has been evacuated and the Skybridge is closed. Witnesses have reported a smell of gas. Power is out at businesses between 11th and 12th Avenues and Hamilton and Rose Streets.

Several bus routes have been rerouted.

Police are asking people to avoid Hamilton Street between Saskatchewan Drive and 12th Avenue.

Police have blocked off 11th Avenue and 12th Avenue. They have also shut down the Hamilton Street and Saskatchewan Drive intersection.

Officers are also diverting traffic and pedestrians out of the area. There are numerous fire trucks and police cars on scene. SaskEnergy is also downtown.
