Royal Vale School in Notre-Dame-de-Grâce was evacuated on Wednesday morning after a gas line was cut close to the school on Somerled Ave.
A city of Montreal crew was doing work on Draper and Somerled when they hit a gas line, said Michael Cohen, a spokesperson for the English Montreal School Board. The school has 700 students in elementary and high school.
The elementary students were taken to nearby Willingdon School on Terrebonne St. and Draper Ave. Parents have been notified to collect their children from Willingdon School.
The high school students were sent to the English Montreal School Board’s head office on Fielding Ave. High school students who are permitted to leave school on their own have been sent home.
Classes have been cancelled for the day.
