Toddler dies in hospital after not being properly secured in vehicle during collision

Toronto police said a three-year-old boy who was in a single-car collision has died.

On Aug. 27, a 24-year-old woman was driving the vehicle northbound on Avenue Road approaching Roselawn Avenue. There were two male passengers inside the vehicle as well.

According to police, the vehicle left the roadway for an undetermined reason and struck a pole on the southeast corner of the intersection.

Police said the child was not properly secured in the vehicle but would not clarify if there was a car seat being used or a seatbelt.

Under Ontario’s Highway Traffic Act, children under the age of eight are required to be in a booster seat if they weigh less than 36 kilograms (80 pounds).

Police would also not comment if charges have been laid against the woman.
