Two city employees charged with fraud, breach of trust

Two city of Montreal employees are facing corruption charges after allegedly pocketing cash from businesses in order for them to reconnect city water pipes after construction work.

Yves Deraiche, 57, and Pierre-Yves Simard, 55, were charged at the Montreal courthouse this week. The acts are alleged to have taken place in the Ahuntsic-Cartierville and Ville-Marie boroughs.

Both men face the same charges of breach of trust and fraud against the government.

The investigation was led by the Escouade de protection de l’intégrité municipale (EPIM), a Montreal police unit assigned to investigate municipal corruption that’s overseen by Quebec’s anti-corruption squad, UPAC.
