First day of spring in Montreal Smog warning issued

A smog warning has been issued by Environment Canada for the Montreal area.

“High concentrations of air pollutants” are expected to persist in the air until noon Tuesday. Anyone with breathing issues is advised to avoid any strenuous activity, especially outdoors.

Montreal residents are asked to refrain from using wood-burning stoves at least until the warning has been lifted. Wood smoke is the main source of dangerous particles in the air during the winter and early spring. Environment Canada has more information on its Info Smog page.
