Taxi driver killed in York Mills and Yonge crash

A taxi driver is dead and two other people are in hospital after three separate crashes in Toronto overnight.

The fatal crash involving two vehicles, one of them a taxicab, happened on York Mills Road east of Yonge Street just before 3:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Toronto police say one of the vehicles struck a hydro pole. The taxi driver, whose age is not yet known, was driving one of the vehicles. It’s not yet known which driver struck the pole.

Police say they don’t believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.

One person has been arrested but there is no word on charges.

York Mills is closed in both directions from Old Yonge Street to Upper Highland Crescent for the police investigation.

Police are also investigating two other crashes, one in North York and another in Etobicoke.

Emergency crews were called to a multi-vehicle crash near Don Valley Parkway and Eglinton Avenue around 2:45 a.m. One person has serious injuries.

Around the same time, a vehicle caught fire after crashing into a hydro pole at Kipling Avenue and Panorama Court, near Finch Avenue West. The driver was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
