Quebecers ready to spend taxes on transit, but not pro sports poll

    Montrealers may welcome a return of a major league baseball team to their city. But a survey conducted by the CROP polling firm for La Presse suggests most of them don’t want to see their tax dollars pay for it.

    The survey, published Friday, found that 62 per cent of Montreal respondents were not in favour of public money being spent to build a downtown venue for a baseball team, a coolness toward public funds for private sports franchise echoed by residents of Quebec City, 58 per cent of whom oppose tax money being spent to bring an NHL franchise to their city.
