Securities regulator reviewing application for Nasdaq stock exchange in Canada

TORONTO — The head of Canada”s biggest securities regulator says its staff have reviewed an application by Nasdaq Inc. to operate a stock exchange in Canada.

Ontario Securities Commission chair and CEO Maureen Jensen says that the application has not yet been reviewed by the board, but has been reviewed by the regulator”s staff.

Jensen says she expects the OSC to consider the application at one of its upcoming meetings, but doesn”t expect there to be an issue.

An earlier report says that the Nasdaq is pushing ahead with its bid to operate an exchange in Canada.

This comes after more than a year after Nasdaq completed its acquisition of Chi-X Canada, an alternative trading system for the Toronto Stock Exchange, in February 2016.
